Teaching Philosophy
My teaching Philosophy is really centered around two core beliefs. One is that history is the study of cause and effect more than anything and a gate way into the future. I also believe it is the duty of every teacher to attempt in there own small way try to improve society and there community through there work. I will now go into these two points and flesh them out in greater detail
"History does not repeat it instructs"-Timothy Snyder and frankly I could not agree more. I personally despise the notion that history constantly repeats itself. I personally have a different contention. I believe that it doesn't repeat itself and that we as humans simply keep making the same mistakes over and over again because we refuse to listen to the instruction the past is often so willing to teach us. In my own small way I would like to help combat this by educating my students on the follies of man so that maybe just maybe we can skip some follies next time. I believe this should be a core tenet of every Social Studies Teachers philosophy.
More broadly though for me personally I believe it is an educators job to improve ones community at the very least. We have the power to educate the youth and help them out in ways that no one else can. I remember as a kid my only support system for a long time was whatever teachers could give and that helped me to become the individual I am today. More importantly than what was listed above I just wanna make a difference for kids like me, all it takes is one person to care and there whole world can change in an instant. This put most simply are the core tenants of my teaching philosophy and what I believe a Social Studies educator and really any type of educators thought process should be.
